Babies on the Farm

These are little keets.  They are guinea fowl as adults. Our first keets,
we are excited to watch them grow and eat all the ticks on the farm.
They make interesting noises and sound alarms when
there is danger. Should be interesting.

fun idea for a birthday cake

So my son Luke turned 16 this year.  He has Autism and can get focused on things and stays
focused on them for a long time.  For the past year, he has wanted chin hair.  He is so funny, in
the mornings after he showers he goes straight to the mirror and raises his chin to look for chin hair.

Sometimes he will reach out for the beards of some people.  We have to tell him that is not
appropriate and he stops but will stare.  As of today, he has 3 hairs.

The Magic Elves are back...

 The Elves are back........
This year only Rosemary and Alvin came back.
Brooks is our other elf but he didn't return this year.
Our 13 year old hasn't asked for him to return.

Just to share a little with you about the Elves.  Our Elves are Magic Elves, not Elf on the shelf.
My daughter tells me the difference is that you are allowed to hold our elves and cuddle.

Flea market madness in Warrenton, TX

Twice a year in Warrenton, TX
They hold miles of flea markets. When you first get there you are overwhelmed.
I have only been twice and I still don't think I understand
how to navigate through the thousands of vendors.
I have managed to convince my husband to tag along every time.
I love having him with me because he helps me to see where I can put something
or does it have potential, there is less impulse spending that way.

Buddy vs the Rattlesnake

Our goat Buddy, gives us so many stories to tell.
These post are little late because there has been so much going on this fall.

One morning I went out to let the goats out of their house and feed them.
My heart sank when I didn't see Buddy calling for me.
I prepared myself that something is wrong.  I don't handle our kids or animals
getting hurt very well.   I tend to panic then calm down.

I got to the goat door and saw Buddy in the corner not moving very much
and then I saw his face.  He was bleeding from the face.
I called my husband and pleaded for him to run home even though he had just gotten to work.
For he is my peace.  He helps me to calm down and look at things calmly.

I opened the door and Buddy didn't want to come out.  He kept his face in
the corner, like he was embarrassed for me to see him that way.
He remained that way till he healed.  Goats really do have
a personality.

What happens when only 1 duck hatches

"Duckie"
The lone duck.
Our daughter LOVES Ducks.

We tried hatching some of our duck eggs.
Only one hatched for some reason.

The problem with that is....they need each other.
They become very lonely.
Interesting fact is that they do get imprinted.
So little Duckie was imprinted by our daughter.

Halloween costumes look at these characters

Halloween oh let the fun begin.
My husband goes all out.  He is always motivated by the contest
at work.  He usually always places the top 3. He loves dressing up with the kids too.
This year he was Captain Hook.
He and the kids took to the streets strutting their stuff.
Captain Hook loved carrying Little Peter Pan around the neighborhood...

Who Would Have Known? Goats love pumpkins!

Fall on our Farm
Fall is always a fun time.
In texas we don't get to see a lot of color but we always enjoy
the pumpkins, the mums and the weather.
This year we found out that goats like to eat pumpkins.
We had a lot of fun with that.

Vintage Doors Become Backdrop for Our Bedroom

I finally finished those doors that we picked up at a flea market.
I got to say I love how they turned out.
I sanded them and touched up some of the paint and sanded again.
My awesome husband figured out how to put them together.
Then I found the perfect wreath at Target.
Have I ever told you? That I absolutely LOVE Boxwoods.
With the wreath the whole thing cost $140.00.

How to Make A Belly Band for Male Dogs

So my male dog is notorious for marking.
No matter how much I let him out, I find a spot.
It drives me crazy. I stumbled upon a
site that showed belly bands and I thought hey that
might help. They are reasonably priced but I thought I
would try to make my own.  So I went to my fabric stash
and had at it.  The following is what I did.

Amazing tip for your Paint Brush

Here is a helpful tip when you paint!

When you are painting and have to stop and wait for it to dry between coats.
First, I don't like waiting. Second, I don't want to clean the brush.
Just to wait an hour or two in between coats.

Here is the tip.....
Put the brush in a bag (like a plastic grocery bag) and put it in the refrigerator. Then pull it out when you are ready to paint. It comes out fresh and no hard bristles.  I Love this tip!!!

My daughter shared that with me.
When I find something that makes things a little more simpler I love sharing those tips.

Next time you paint have a bag handy :)

The baby's here!!!!

It's official I am a grandma or nana. He is absolutely beautiful. Our daughter and son-in-law are doing an amazing job at parenting. They are so in love with him and of course trying to adjust to interrupted sleep. Liam Carter was a healthy 8.4oz and 21 inches long. It is not my intention to go crazy posting pictures but I am very excited.

Updated cavalier puppy picture

Those puppies are growing so fast and are very curious today they found a pile of mulch to chew on.

Amazing Oatmeal Scotchies

So if you have never heard of an oatmeal scotchie they are an oatmeal cookie with butterscotch morsels instead of raisins.
I am always on a quest to find the best cookie recipes. I believe I have found the best oatmeal cookie recipe. Try it and let me know your thoughts and if you have a better one please share with me.
I found a blog called cravingcomfort.blogspot.com. She has a recipe box and that is where I found the recipe.
The recipe is as follows except I add butterscotch morsels instead of raisins.

Baby Shower On A Budget

This is my oldest, Katie.  She is having her first baby.  A little boy.  Together we worked on her shower so she also has photos on her blog, Old Burlap & Lace.  I know that parties can get expensive and sometimes break the budget.  We tried to find ways to be creative, have  fun and still maintain a budget.  With the help of pinterest and our heads here is what we did.
